Player Injury Scheme / Fund

The GAA and Ladies Board have a Player Injury Scheme / Fund which is funded entirely from GAA and / or Ladies Board funds. The scheme / fund is NOT Insurance cover and does not seek to compensate fully for injury but rather lessen the hardship to players and officials. The scheme / fund supplements other personal schemes / insurance cover where applicable e.g. VHI, Aviva, etc. These should always be utilisied in the first instance.

Further information of the protections provided by each board can be found using the links below. Additional

Please liaise with your mentor regarding any injury claim. The Chairperson / Secretary of each section can also assist.

The GAA Injury Benefit Fund is in place to cover benefits which cannot be claimed elsewhere. Therefore, if a claimant is seeking to claim benefit from the fund, they must exhaust all other avenues before making a claim under the GAA Injury Benefit Fund. Furthermore, the Injury Benefit Fund should not be used as a guarantee for the payment of expenses. Ultimately, the responsibility to ensure that adequate cover is in place lies with the individual member, commensurate with his \ her specific needs and members should not use the fund as their only recourse or be dependent on the fund to compensate them fully for any losses associated with the injury sustained.

2023 GAA Injury Benefit Fund Summary Document

The LGFA Injury Fund is an injury fund, set up to assist members with some reimbursement for medical expenses incurred due to an injury sustained during ladies Gaelic football. It is NOT an insurance policy. There is no insurance company involved in any way with the Fund and therefore there is no insurance policy number associated with the LGFA Injury Fund.

There is no legal obligation on the LGFA to administer such a Fund. It is the responsibility of all members to ensure that they have sufficient financial resources for any treatment they wish to pursue due to an injury. If a player is covered under another source, they must claim through that source first – i.e., private medical insurance (VHI, LAYA, Irish Life) or School Insurance.

Rules pertaining to the LGFA Injury Fund are covered in the Official Guide Rule 67 to Rule 91. All members should make themselves aware of these Rules.

2023 LGFA Injury Fund Guide

The Camogie Association, unlike its GAA and LGFA counterparts, does not administer its own injury scheme. This means that injury cover/insurance must be purchased from insurance providers, operating independently in the private sector.

The obligations relating to injury cover within Camogie are detailed in the Official Guide Part 1. The rules around registration of members with the Camogie Association and insurance are key.

The rules relating to the playing of the game outlined in Official Guide Part 2 are also relevant.

Each Unit is obliged to comply with these rules.

Please be aware that failure to comply may have implications in how an insurance company considers a claim, in the event of a claim arising from a fixture that may not be deemed official.

Insurance claims must be processed via the relevant insurance company.

The Camogie Association does not handle any insurance claims.
